Taittinger remains one of the few Champagne Houses to be owned and actively managed by the family named on the label. Its origins date back to 1734 when the original house was founded by Jacques Fourneaux. The Taittinger link was established in 1931 when Pierre Taittinger, the founder of today’s company acquired the House. Pierre spent time in the Champagne region when serving in the 1st world war as a young cavalry officer. Stationed at the Château de la Marquetterie, he fell in love with this remarkable property and its vineyards and eventually purchased the company. Today, the Reims based House is headed up by Pierre’s grandson, Pierre-Emmanuel Taittinger and his son, Clovis and daughter Vitalie both of whom are actively involved in the day to day running of this thriving family Champagne House.

Taittinger Folies de la Marquetterie NV
12.5% abv
The Château de la Marquetterie is situated in the heart of the Champagne wine-growing region in Pierry near Epernay and is owned by Champagne Taittinger. Prior to the French Revolution it was a meeting place for philosophers and authors of the Age of Enlightenment and a site for village fairs. The vineyard around the Château de la Marquetterie is known as “Les Folies” and is a sunny south, southwest exposed vineyard, this combined with its soils produce Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes of exceptional quality.
A single cru from the family home it is a special dedication to the history and is traditionally made. It is produced exclusively from grapes grown at “Les Folies”, picked after the first “green” harvest, giving the wine optimum sweetness and aromatic maturity. The champagne is from a single vintage, non declared and is only made in the best years. A blend of 45% Chardonnay and 55% Pinot Noir. The acquisition of the Château de la Marquetterie and the surrounding vineyards marked the beginning of the family’s Champagne adventure. The vineyard grew very quickly and the House now presents more than 35 different crus. “Folies de la Marquetterie” pays tribute to this story. The signature tends to dense and profound, with opulent aromas. Each plot is vinified separately, while some crus are aged in oak barrels. Finally, five years of ageing in bottles ensures the wine’s perfect balance.
