Van Loggerenberg Wines Breton Cabernet Franc 2021
13% abv
The wine is such an established part of the Cabernet Franc scene in the Cape that it’s hard to believe that 2021 is only the sixth vintage of Breton. Wonderfully fresh and perfumed, with dill, violet, paprika and lead pencil aromas, focused black cherry and raspberry fruit, detailed tannins and very nuanced oak. 2024-32’– Tim Atkin, MW, South African Special Report 2022, 96/100
‘The 2021 Breton is the Cabernet Franc cuvée sourced from two farmers that Loggerenberg has worked with since the beginning in Polkedraai and Klein Welnoed, the former 100% whole bunch and the latter de-stemmed. Aged in used 500-litre oak barrels, like previous vintages, it expresses the variety succinctly, obtaining a Loire-like pepperiness (partly due to the stem addition). The palate is medium-bodied with crunchy red fruit, a dash of white pepper and a touch of lavender, very long and tender with a surfeit of freshness from start to finish.
