Vieux Telegraph is made exclusively from old vines (averaging 70 years old) all around the ‘Crau’, the finest terroir in Châteauneuf du Pape. The particularly hot microclimate is such that the Bruniers, owners of the estate for almost a century, are able to harvest as much as a week ahead of their neighbours. 65% Grenache Noir, 15% Mourvèdre, 15% Syrah, Cinsault, Clairette and sundry others 5%. Maturation is 20-22 months in large French oak foudres (60hl); bottling is unfined and unfiltered, then released after 2 years. Importantly Vieux Télégraphe does not produce a “super cuvée” so all their best fruit goes into this wine (the younger vines are used in their Télégramme).

“Vinified with 20% whole clusters, the 2023 Châteauneuf-du-Pape La Crau unwinds from the glass with fragrant rose petal, wild strawberry, licorice and stemmy subtleties. Juicy and expressive, the full-bodied 2023 is immediately alluring, precisely balanced and remarkably elegant on the complex finish. I can’t wait to taste it from bottle.”
