William Harrison PNV Special Heartland Reserve 2022

14% abv

Vol- 75cl

Offered exclusively as an auction Lot for this year’s Napa Premiere, this unique parcel of sixty bottles from William Harrison is comprised of the Estates’ first ever release of a 50% Cabernet Sauvignon and 50% Cabernet Franc blend. The cuvee shows off the quality and expression of the very heart of the 2ha estate vineyard and will form the basis of the flagship ‘Rutherford Reserve’ Cabernet in 2022.

After four days of touring and sampling various estates, a theme of over extracted and oaked wines was beginning to disappoint. Blends incorporating Cabernet Franc though and the lift and freshness it lent had become a clear preference, as I sought out elegance to complement the rich fruit flavors Napa produces so well. Fortunately, I stumbled into Sean Harrison’s winery who excelled in this aspect, utilizing prime plots of both Cabernets’, and using restraint with new oak. The outcome is a refined and luscious Napa red, reminiscent of top-tier Pomerol vintages. Expect to be delighted upon its 2024 release, this wine promises to age gracefully, offering enjoyment for years to come.

William Harrison Vineyards is a historic family run property nestled into the foothills of the Vaca Mountains on deep alluvial, sandy soils, though rarely seen outside of California due to an oversubscribed mailing list of loyal customers the estate has produced world class wines for three decades now. Inspired by the Niebaum- Coppola’s landmark ‘Rubicon’ blend, Bill Harrison had the foresight to plant a substantial proportion of Cabernet Franc when establishing the vineyard back in 1991 and as growing season conditions have continued to trend warmer these mature vines deliver freshness, detail, and aromatic lift that sets the wines apart.
