Yannick Amirault created his own Domaine in 1977 with 3.9 hectares of the Malgagnes vineyard he inherited from his grandfather. Yannick’s son Benoit joined his father in 2003 and today the Domaine has 20 hectares, 2/3 in Bourgueil and 1/3 in Saint-Nicolas-de-Bourgueil which is split into 25 different parcels. The Domaine has been certified Organic since 2009 and no chemicals or weed killers have been used since 1997. The vines are between 45-50 years old and all the wines go into a mixture of barriques and demi-muids.
Yannick Amirault Bourgueil ‘Le Grand Clos’ 2022
14% abv
“This wine isn’t to be rushed; it’s to be sipped and savored. The silky Bourgueil caresses your inner cheeks with rich black fruits: plum, cherry and raspberry. The midpalate is luxurious, with the faintest hints of vanilla baking spice riding along the length of the taste.” 94/100, Wine Enthusiast, September 2024
Yannick Amirault first began acquiring plots in the famed Bourgueil lieu-dit of Le Grand Clos in the 1990s and now owns two hectares. This hillside is noted for its clay and flint soils over limestone and its southern exposure which ensures wines of depth, refined structure, and tremendous aging potential. Yannick’s vines average 45 years old and have been certified organic since 2009. The “Grand Clos” is from siliceous clay soils, with élevage for 19 months in 400L barrels. It’s dense and lightly spiced.
