Founded by Baron Frederic Guillame de Pury in the 1860’s, Yeringberg is one of the Yarra’s first and finest wine estates. The Baron’s grandson Guill de Pury and his great-granddaughter Sandra are the current winemakers and their deep connection with the land is palpable. Rightly famed for their white Rhône varietals (no longer known as ‘White Hermitage’), specific sites in their tiny estate yield excellent results with other varieties all brought to fruition in their nation trust protected heritage winery built in 1880. After the region's near 50 year wine hiatus, Guill started replanting vines in 1969, making the first of the new generation of Yeringberg wines in 1974. YEringberg are the only Yarra winery still owned by the same samily as in the first chapter of the region. Sandra followed her iniital career as a chef with taking on the reins of the estate and the own-rooted vines planted by her father. “Yarra Valley pioneers, the de Pury family are renowned for wines of finesse and elegance that epitomise the finest the region can produce. Produced from some of the oldest vines in the valley, these are long-lived wines made in tiny quantities. Yeringberg makes wines from the low-yielding vines re-established on the heart of what was one of the most famous vineyards of the nineteenth century. In the riper years, the red wines have a velvety generosity of flavour which is rarely encountered, yet never lose varietal character, while the Yeringberg White takes students of history back to Yeringberg's fame in the nineteenth century.” - James Halliday

Yeringberg Pinot Noir 2021
13% abv
“The charming, old-vine, single-vineyard 2021 Pinot Noir is a wine that impresses for subtlety rather than sheer power. There is lovely detail as it builds in the glass, first with potpourri and cranberry before darker, earthier tones rise up. It continues on that ethereal line with strong earthy tones, topped by gentle rose petal and spice through to a fine, lingering finish. This is understated and delicious.” 2025 -2031

Beautiful and pure right from the start, this is Pinot, if you know what I mean. It’s both pretty and powerful, delicate and muscular, and most definitely a serious wine. The aroma is laden with notes of raspberry, cherry & spice, all layered with earthy, sappy, charcuterie complexity, and wrapped up in an intense and neatly savoury package. Old vines produce a palate that opens with depth and power, developing with air to display considerable elegance and refinement. There’s a supple, red-fruit quality to the mid-palate, plenty of spice and sappy complexity, and fine but powerful structure that promises a great future. With more time, the ripeness and richness of the fruit builds, as does the spice and rose-laden perfume on the long, enticing palate. In need of either a decant or 5-6 years in a cellar, this is lovely, serious Pinot. – Sandra de Pury
