Bodega Marañones is located in San Martín de Valdeiglesias, a sub-region of the Vinos de Madrid DO. Young winemaker Fernando ‘Fer’ Garcia has been heavily influenced by the biodynamic wines of the Loire and Burgundy, so it is no great surprise that his old vine Garnacha, Syrah and Albillo wines have a balanced freshness and sense of place. The vineyards are aged between 30-80 years old and are farmed organically across 5 different parcels. The wines are a pure expression of each variety and terroir. Undoubtably one of Spain’s most talented up and coming winemakers.
Bodegas Maranones Ramon Esteve Bosch, El Intruso 2014
14% abv
Vol- 75cl
This Carignan was made by Ramon when he was working in the winemaking team at Maranones from sourced fruit. Almost Pinot-esque in tone and juice profile thsi pomegranate and cherry smacker has forest fruits and hedgerow spices with a creamy texture and lovely length. Drinking superbly.
Ramon himself has now joined Danile Landi at Comando G in the Sierrs de Grado mountains west of Madrid. We first encountered Ramon when he worked for Simon Rogan in Manchester.
