Ana Maria Cumsille Altos de Guarillihue Semillon 2023
Vol- 75cl
Deep resonant golden colour. On the nose, it is complex, with notes of orange peel, black tea, dried apricot, and herbs. On the palate, it shows good structure, fine tannins, and vibrant acidity. Aging in old amphorae and barrels adds earthy notes, dried fruits, and a rounded texture. Long finish with delicious acidity.
“Another obvious high point in the Ana Maria Cumsille roster is the 2023 Semillon. It spent time on its skins during primary fermentation and matured for 10 months in a combination of tinaja amphora and used barrels. The nose is extremely floral, leading with pungent but pleasant aromas of honeysuckle, elderflower and orange rinds. The palate is smooth, round and powerful, holding impressive richness tempered by an equal measure of finesse through the elegant, layered, phenolic finish. This wine is a standout of my tastings in Itata.” 2025 – 2033

This Semillon variety comes from the vineyard of producer Ariel Sandoval, located at Guarilihue Alto on the Itata Valley. The vines are 100 years old, with north exposition, and planted on head-Bush old conduction system which is traditional on the valley and following the same techniques from previous generations. The location is only 20 kilometres away from the Pacific Ocean, being irrigated by the cold influence of this immense sea.
The harvest was done manually and took place in mid-March. It was fermented with native yeasts on the skins until halfway through the alcoholic fermentation, then separated from the skins and finished fermenting as must. Aging was done 80% in old local clay vessels and 20% in used barrels for 12 months.
