This is a beautiful example of the Au Bon Climat style. The flinty, stony aromas stand out, while in the background is an intriguing spice note of clove and nutmeg from sur lie barrel aging in somewhat neutral, Francois Freres barrels for 10 months. Flavors and aromas of citrus and stone fruit, are finished with a beautiful lemon/lime zest note. The wine is intense, but light on its feet and is built to compliment food, not over power food.

Santa Barbara County has the climate and terroir that allows Au Bon Climat to consistently make balanced and lively Chardonnays year after year. The wine keeps on evolving from delicious and fresh at release, to a richer more complex wine with age.

The fruit for this wine is from three well-farmed vineyards: Bien Nacido, Los Alamos, and Le Bon Climat. The grapes from each vineyard are carefully handpicked, and sorted in the vineyard. After harvesting, the grapes are whole cluster pressed, and juice is quickly settled, chilled, and put to barrel. Barrel fermentation and malo-lactic fermentation are completed. The following summer the lots are blended and wine bottled. Sur lie barrel aging in somewhat neutral François Frères barrels for 10 months provides an intriguing spice note of clove and nutmeg. The wine will keep on developing and gain in complexity for the next decade.

Founded in 1982, Au Bon Climat produces internationally-recognized Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from grapes grown in California's Santa Barbara County. Located at the foot of one of California's most highly rated vineyards, Bien Nacido in the Santa Maria Valley, one of the finest sites in California, ideal for the production of the refined, Burgundian style of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. ABC, as it is more commonly referred to, has won universal acclaim for its wines thanks to late owner & winemaker Jim 'Wild Boy' Clendenen. They purchased clones of Pinot Noir from Burgundy in a bid to replicate as closely as possible the restraint and finesse of the wines from the region. Now Isabella and Knox Clendenen continue their father Jim's legacy, treating Burgundy as the benchmark with General Manager Jim Adelman continuin his 30 year tenure overseeing the winemaking. Jim eschewed a career in law for the lure of the vine following a month's stay in Burgundy and Champagne when he was 21 and never looked back. The wines combine the mineral precision and grace of Burgundy with the flair of the West Coast.

Orders under £150 are charged an initial £9.95 incl. VAT.

Northern Ireland, Isle of Man, Isles of Scilly.
Orders under £190 are charged an initial £12.00 incl.

All stock bought from Bond will be charged at delivery cost as quoted by the bond. As this varies dependent on the location of the wines and ultimate destination this will be quoted to you at the point of billing for VAT and duty.

Deliveries are normally between 09.00 and 17.00 Tuesday to Friday and a signature is required on receipt of delivery. (We do not ship on a Friday for Monday delivery unless specifically requested to do so).

A shipping confirmation email will be sent when your order has been processed and shipped. You will be sent a further email and/or text with a delivery time slot and a consignment number along with instructions on how to amend this if required.

If you are out a card is left, with an instruction to call the local depot to re-arrange delivery. Alternatively, you can inform us to “leave safe”, “leave with a neighbour”, “leave in garage” etc. and we will pass this information onto the courier. Please remember that, in accordance with our Terms & Conditions, alcohol will only be left with persons over 18 Years Old.

We use Mailsafe packaging and double walled cardboard boxes for secure shipping of all bottles. Clear labelling marked FRAGILE is applied and all our despatches.

UK mainland deliveries are overnight from confirmation of despatch with the exception of the following postcodes where deliveries are made on a 2 to 5 day service from despatch :
