Fortunate Son wines are an ongoing side project for Jayson Woodbridge of Hundred Acre; produced partially from fruit from the Hundred Acre Vineyards complemented by family vineyards from the Napa that Jayson farms and purchases grapes from per acre. From the 2021 vintage, Fortunate Son has its own dedicated Winery in St Helena located in the newly restored, historic David Fulton Ranch.

Fortunate Son ‘The Dreamer’ 2021
15.5% abv
Blackcurrants, roasted herbs, licorice, and some jus de viande-like aromas and flavors all emerge from the 2021 The Diplomat, a slightly more Merlot-dominated blend that includes 40% Cabernet Sauvignon. It’s beautifully balanced, medium to full-bodied, has integrated acidity, and fine tannins. Drink this beauty over the coming 10-12 years.
93 Points, Jeb Dunnuck
100% Cabernet Sauvignon aged 30–32 months in ultra-tight grain French oak barriques. The wine displays a shimmering, lucid ruby colour. Gorgeous, dusty, dark berry fruit unfolds with an incredible panoply of mulled Christmas spices and warm berry pie compote. Full-bodied and texturally defined, framed by a core of ultra-fine tannins with added dark berry fruit depth. It is a meal unto itself but better paired with roasted meats drizzled in rich plum sauce and accompanied by prosciutto-wrapped figs.
97 Points, Decanter
Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2021 The Dreamer Cabernet Sauvignon bursts with bold cassis, baked plums, and boysenberries notes, followed by hints of camphor, violets, and dark chocolate. The medium to full-bodied palate has a solid frame of bright freshness and firm, grainy tannins supporting the muscular black fruits, finishing long with a lively lift.
96 Points, The Wine Independent
Sourced from small, family vineyards, (in some cases for 3-4 generations) that are farmed with great care and attention. Made in very small amounts and combined from blocks of vineyards where they make a perfect combination of power, complexity and layers that give the wine incredible character and elegance. 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. Aged for 30-32 months in the finest French oak barrique. The stave wood is hand-selected for ultra-tight grain, then air dried for three years before being made into barrels.
