Glencadam 15 Years Old

46% abv

Vol- 70cl

After a short mothballing between 2000 – 2003 the 15 year old from Glencadam heralded the first release of its new era and in 2017 after receving the Whisky of the Year gong from respected blogger Ralfy.com it became something of a cult and rather hard to find bottling.
Now in more better supply this Multi-award winning Malt is a fine example of centuries of craftsmanship and tradition. “The rather dignified” malt with a beautifully mouth-watering, true flavour. Glencadam 15 Year Old is bigger and bolder with a strength of 46%, and was released in 2008. It is a Highland scotch that is both enjoyable and great value.

Official Tasting Notes
Nose – Sweetness and delicate malt sugar at first, which is balanced by a spicy, salt and cider vinegar crisp note.
Palate – A nice balance of malt sugar and oakiness. Juicy cut grass, lime and heather honey notes.

Glencadam first opened in 1825, in the ancient city of Brechin. This was the year that the first horse-drawn omnibuses were established in London, the world's first modern railway opened, with the first public train pulled by steam engine, Cox's Orange Pippin apples were first grown and London became the largest city in the world, over-taking Beijing. It was little more than one year after the Excise Act of 1823 legalised distilling.

Glencadam was mothballed during both world wars; the warehouses were instead used to barrack soldiers. There is still a mark on the grass by No. 2 warehouse where their commissary was.

Glencadam Single Malt has always been premium whisky for blending, and as such was highly sought after for some of the world’s most prestigious blends. Glencadam was finally bought by Angus Dundee Distillers on 1st June 2003, an independent Scottish company. Angus Dundee restarted production immediately, and released the first ever single malt product, Glencadam Single Malt Scotch Whisky Aged 15 Years, in December 2005. From there the distillery has gone from strength to strength.
