Founded in 1833 originally as Burnfoot distillery, it was later changed to Glen Guin and then eventually Glengoyne – “the valley of the wild geese”. Located a dozen or so miles north of Glasgow, Glengoyne is unique in that the distillery itself is located in the Highland region, while the warehouses, across the A81, are technically in the Lowlands. Moreover, Glengoyne is equiped with one wash still and two spirit stils (they usually come in pairs) with owners Ian Macleod Distillers proudly declaring that these are 'the slowest stills in Scotland'.

Is it a lowlander? Is it a Highlander? Glengoyne distillery has the dubious honour of having the highland line passing through its garden, making them, theoretically, a highland distillery…just.
With unpeated air-dried malt, a very slow distillation, fresh fruity grassy distillate, Glengoyne’s core spirit could be described as lowland in style but its the quality of the casks used for maturation that make all the difference here.
Glengoyne 18 year old is matured in 35% 1st Fill European Oak Sherry, 15% 1st Fill American Oak Sherry and 50% refill casks

At first macerated fruits, marzipan and walnuts which develops into warm spices, dry cocoa and lingering Seville marmalade. The finish is long, warm and dry…
