I Pentri takes its name from an ancient Samnite Tribe and is based in the Benevento province of Campania with 10 hectares of terraced vineyards on the hillsides of Monte Taburno. Husband-and-wife team Dionisio Meola and Lia Falato founded the winery in 2002 after 20 years experience of tending vines and the land in this area close to their hearts. Vineyards are tended and harvested by hand. No chemicals are used and natural biodynamic practices are followed with minimal interventions in the winery. Wines are fermented with wild yeasts and bottled unfined and unfiltered.
I Pentri Incontro 2023
14% abv
Greco & Coda di Volpe blend. Greco (80%) , always a late ripener, has soaked up all the rays of a particulary sun- drenched and warm September in 2023. It shines in the glass with deep and luminous golden-amber tones accentuate by the ever-rich tones of the Coda di Volpe (20%). A grippy, mineral framework of peach pith and stone is filled to the brim with dusty tropicals – papaya and green mango – and accenutuated with yellow florals and orange zest before a long Pentri finish of snare-drum tension and citrus snap.
From 8 year old estate vines making their first sortie out in an I Pentri jacket – up to this readiness they were sold off to a local cellar – fermentation is in stainless steel with aging on the lees before bottling.
