Established in 1982 by Dr Richard and Jill McIntyre, Moorooduc Estate is a small, family run wine business that has developed an enviable reputation for complex and food friendly wines. They were amongst the very earliest grape prospectors to see the potential for making great Pinot Noir and Chardonnay on the Mornington Peninsula. These days they have been joined by their highly talented Master of Wine daughter Kate. Their philosophy in everything is to make the most of top-quality ingredients. Intensive, hands-on care in the three vineyards (one belonging to the family, one to a family friend and one to their viticulturalist) produces the best possible fruit for their wines. Land is organically dry farmed with minimal use of chemicals, Wild yeast ferments and minimal intervention winemaking, with a nod to traditional Burgundian techniques, allow their wines to express their site specificity, or terroir. Production is only around 5000 cases annually.
Moorooduc Robinson Pinot Noir 2019
14% abv
This wine is made from specially selected fruit from Hugh and Isabelle Robinson’s vineyard on the Old Moorooduc Road. The single vineyard Estate wines celebrate the individual character of certain special sites around the Moorooduc area.
A classic Robinson Pinot Noir, with fruit purity, intensity and a silky long structured palate line. Bright ruby red with a lifted nose of tangy raspberry fruit and Turkish delight. On the palate there is more crunchy red fruit – concentrated raspberry and red cherry with firm, silky tannins and red berry acidity on the finish. Attractive savoury cedar notes balance the fruit vibrancy.
“This is very elegant. The 2019 Robinson Vineyard Pinot Noir unfurls patiently across the palate, leaving its main sail furled until the last. In that final opening, the wine displays a splay of flavor on the back palate, which lingers for some time in the mouth. This is concentrated, polished, and flavorsome, with cranberry, strawberry, star anise, redcurrants and a drop of pomegranate.” 2022 – 2032
