Taittinger remains one of the few Champagne Houses to be owned and actively managed by the family named on the label. Its origins date back to 1734 when the original house was founded by Jacques Fourneaux. The Taittinger link was established in 1931 when Pierre Taittinger, the founder of today’s company acquired the House. Pierre spent time in the Champagne region when serving in the 1st world war as a young cavalry officer. Stationed at the Château de la Marquetterie, he fell in love with this remarkable property and its vineyards and eventually purchased the company. Today, the Reims based House is headed up by Pierre’s grandson, Pierre-Emmanuel Taittinger and his son, Clovis and daughter Vitalie both of whom are actively involved in the day to day running of this thriving family Champagne House.

Taittinger Comtes de Champagne 150cl [En Primeur – Spring 2026) 2014
12.5% abv
‘The 2014 Comtes de Champagne is pristine. In this tasting, it comes across as a mini-2008, similar in its linear personality, with just a touch more mid-palate creaminess. Readers will find a Comtes that plays in the realm of tension and energy. Citrus confit, white flowers, chalk, mint and chamomile are all finely sketched. Light tropical overtones grace the finish. What an absolute delight.’
97 Points, Antonio Galloni – Vinous
“Apricots, hazelnuts, lemons, white flowers, sliced almonds and hints of licorice on the nose. It’s creamy and layered, with soft, rounded bubbles that spread across the palate. Lovely balance of breadth, ripeness and freshness, with delicious wildflower honey and nut notes lingering. 100% grand cru chardonnay from Avize, Mesnil-sur-Oger, Oger, Cramant and Chouilly. Drink or hold”.
97 points, James Suckling, August 2023
The 2014 vintage in Champagne was one of contrasts — marked by a mild spring, an early flowering, and an unusually cool, damp summer that challenged growers before a sunny, dry September brought salvation. The result is a year defined by precision, freshness, and tension rather than opulence, producing wines of remarkable clarity and long-term potential.
For Taittinger’s Comtes de Champagne, this vintage plays perfectly into the house’s elegant, Chardonnay-driven style. Sourced entirely from Grand Cru vineyards in the Côte des Blancs, the 2014 Comtes is a study in refinement — vibrant, pure, and beautifully chiselled, with a mineral backbone and energy that recall some of the most classic vintages of the past. It’s a release that underscores both the challenges and triumphs of the year, offering a wine of sophistication and endurance.
