The Chassagnoux family got their start in Bordeaux in 1903 as negociants. From there, they purchased their first vineyard in 1955, when they created Chateau Jean Voisin. The idea to buy the estate was the brainchild of Pierre Chassagnoux and Amedee Chassagnoux. The next purchase for the family was in the Fronsac appellation, when Xavier Chassagnoux obtained Chateau Renard in 1978. Today, Jean Voisin remains a family run estate as it’s still owned and managed by members of the family, Xavier Chassagnoux and Laurence Chassagnoux.
Chateau Jean Voisin Saint-Emilion Grand Cru 2012
14% abv
Vol- 75cl
From a 14 hectare vineyard around the Chateau in St Emilion. With great respect for the environment using no herbicides, tillage of the soil and cover crops, with debudding, leaf stripping and thinning to avoid disease. 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc picked by hand and aged in oak for 12 months. This has aged beautifully and yet is still juicy and succulent – showing lovely dark plums and damsons with a fabulous cedar and blackcurrant length.
