Paul Avril’s estate Clos du Papes is Rhône royalty and the wines produced here have a unique elegance and piercing aromatic expression that earns them a legendary reputation. Production is modern but eschews the use of new oak or filtering of any kind and, perhaps most importantly no super priced super cuvées – all the best fruit and wine making energy goes into creating the single sublime wine that has been produced here for over a century.
Clos des Papes Le Petit Vin d’Avril [En Primeur – Due June 2022]
Vincent Avril makes this non vintage blend using 2/3 of the current vintage (2020) with the remaining 1/3 the previous year’s wine from barrel – the result is a playful, wine with more than enough depth to stay true to it’s noble Clos des Papes lineage.
Sourced from vines along the banks of Rhone River , it is a mosaic blend is made up of Grenache, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Mourvedre, Carignan and Cinsault. For our money one of the best value wines in France that is sells out quickly – largely in the best bistros across the country.
