Found 5 miles south of Aberlour, Glenfarclas is a rare beast among Scottish distilleries in that it remains family owned. The distillery was founded in 1836 by Robert Hay and, on his death in 1865, was bought over by father and son, John and George Grant for £511.19s.0d. John Grant left in 1870 to establish Cragganmore nearby and the lease was passed down to his son and has been operated by the Grant family ever since. Uniquely, Glenfarclas use the "direct-firing" method of heating their stills, i.e. using gas burners, whereas most distillieries these days heat their stills indirectly by means of steam. Once distilled, the new make spirit is predominantly racked into second fill ex-Oloroso sherry butts. In March 2006 Glenfarclas was named Distiller of the Year by Whisky Magazine “for being consistently good and staying true to its core values” - a statement that we think rings true today.

Glenfarclas 25 Years Old Decanter Collection – Fisrt Release
49.5% abv
The palate is gorgeously smooth and silkily-textured, with rich, generous flavours of fruitcake, hazelnuts, dried fruit and a hint of dark chocolate and coffee. A thoroughly delightful, decadent dram.
The Glenfarclas 25 Year Old Decanter Collection represents the inaugural release in an ambitious five-part series from the distinguished Speyside distillery. This exceptional first release was made exclusively available to the United Kingdom market in 2022, with only 600 bottles produced. The whisky showcases the exceptional sherry cask character for which this family-owned distillery is celebrated, bottled at its natural cask strength of 49.5% ABV to preserve the full complexity and depth of flavour developed over a quarter-century of maturation.
The presentation befits the quality within, featuring a hand-crafted Glencairn crystal decanter housed in a handsome piano-finished presentation box that reflects the autumnal colours of Speyside. This collaboration with Glencairn Crystal continues a relationship spanning more than four decades, as John Grant was the first person in the whisky industry to order from Glencairn. Following this debut, the series continued with a 20-year-old Port pipe edition in 2023 and a 24-year-old release in 2024, the fourth edition was a single sherry but filled on the final day of the last Millenium – The final release is of course still to come…
