Orly Lumbreras, a radio sound engineer by training, established a small winery in avalmoral de la Sierra in 2013 after studying at the Escuela de la Vid in Madrid. Orly works from Navalmoral de la Sierra in the high altitude outer limits of the Alto Alberche winegrowing zone, a wild and untamed part of the Sierra de Gredos, a region with many near abandoned family vineyards, kept only out of love. He works by adopting these ancient vineyards, dry farmed and trained to bush vines to protect them from the wind. The vines cling to poor granite soils, nestled amongst unspoiled and rugged terroir on exposed mountain slopes, giving low yields and concentrated grapes.
A traditional and minimal intervention approach is taken in the cellar, treading by foot, fermenting using native yeasts in open vats and old earthen jars, with minimal sulphites. These are austere, yet wild and perfumed wines, concentrated wines with exceptional vibrancy and freshness.
