Rene Rostaing crafts some of the finest Côte Rôties on the market today. He has owned 2 hectares in the Côte Blonde and La Landone since the 1970s but fortune has blessed him through his inheritance of four hectares of superbly sited vineyards from his father in law Albert Dervieux and another 1.4 hectares of particularly old vines from his uncle Marius Gentaz. He now has 7.4 hectares which in Côte Rôtie terms is a significant holding.
Rostaing dislikes the overt taste of new oak and uses a maximum of 15% in the maturation process. All the wines are bottled unfiltered.
Rene Rostaing Cote Rotie La Viaillere 2020
14% abv
Vol- 75cl
A new single vineyard Côte-Rôtie from the lieu-dit, La Viaillère, a 0.5-hectare plot with vines up to 90 years old. This used to be a component of the Ampodium blend but Pierre is vinifying it separately for the first time in 2020.
“While this vineyard suffered immensely from frost in the spring of 2021, the 2020 Cote Rotie la Viaillere looks amazing. Marked by vibrant, intense notes of purple raspberries and violets, this is full-bodied, rich and velvety, with wonderfully fine tannins and a nearly never-ending finish. While La Viallière is not my favorite lieu-dit, this is truly special.” 2025 – 2040
