A Châteauneuf-du-Pape property on top form, with a formidable range of impressive wines. The winemaking has been in the hands of the talented Didier Négron (whose wife is a Sabon) since 2004. Robert Parker has been a regular visitor and customer for over 15 years. The vines are planted in some of the best sites of Châteauneuf – Les Cabrières, La Crau, Courthezon and Nalys, and all with “galets roulés”. They have a minimum age of 50 years. Grenache, Syrah, Cinsault and Mourvèdre dominate.
Roger Sabon Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Reserve 2022
15.5% abv
Virile with a strong and charismatic character! On the palate it is fleshy, warm and fresh, with cherry brandy hints and fresh and silky tannins. The depth mid-palate is impressive and gives way to a finish that is as powerful as it is silky!
“The Sabon’s 2022 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Réserve, a blend of 80% Grenache Noir, 10% Syrah and 10% Mourvèdre sourced from vines planted on La Crau Ouest and La Grenade, evokes a dense, deep bouquet of lead pencil, licorice, spices, dark wild berries and fresh thyme. Medium to full-bodied, dense and concentrated, it’s perfectly balanced with a layered mid-palate framed by velvety tannins, concluding with a long, saline finish. It will take some time for this powerful Châteauneuf-du-Pape to hit its strike.” 2025 – 2044
93+ Points, Yohan Castaing, The Wine Advocate, Sep 2024
“The 2022 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Réserve sings at this showing. Forest strawberry, licorice, black cherry, cured meat and violet nuances are front and center. Closing with a long and expansive finale, the full-bodied and markedly tannic 2022 demands at least five more years to settle down.” 2029 -2042
