Weingut Prager perpetuates yesteryear's traditions to preserve them for the generations to come. Ilse and Toni Bodenstein have been responsible for the state's quality since the early nineties. Their central philosophy: The wines should reflect the vineyard sites that grew them.
Toni Bodenstein dedicates much effort to do justice to the diversity of contrasts found in the smallest of areas, the unique soil formations and the subtle microclimate. Therefore, the wines made from the grapes grown in the various terroirs have their own unmistakable character, however fine distinctions between them may be.
The vineyard and cellar tasks are performed according to traditional methods, paired with the necessary innovation, and always aspiring to produce the best possible quality.
Weingut Prager Riesling, Smaragd, Klaus 2020
13.5% abv
36th place in James Suckling’s Top 100 Wines of Austria 2021
“The 2020 Klaus has an enormous depth of fruit, showing in the typical Prager style great energy countered with elegant minerality. Delicately smoky, with juicy notes of pineapple, it is already a pleasure, but will certainly increase even more when its untamed wildness has refined with a few years.” JS
“The 2020 Ried Klaus Riesling Smaragd is deep, pure and coolish on the nose, very complex, refined and flinty. Silky, refined and elegant on the palate, this is a juicy-piquant as well as crystalline and salty, very complex and persistent Klaus of great class and style with fine tannins, stimulating bitters and firm structure. A great wine. Tasted in June 2021.” 2021 – 2050
