Narupa – RÃas Baixas, Spain
Narupa Wines, situated in the heart of the Val do Salnés valley in the RÃas Baixas region of Spain, is a small family-run winery founded by four friends – the Pedrosa brothers (Rosa and Fran), Ruth Campelo, and Nacho JÃmenez in 2013. Their exceptional Albariño wines display the diversity and quality of their local grape.
The wines captures the essence of the Galician coast with its fresh, saline, floral, and citrusy notes, balanced acidity, and minerality. They reflects the coastal influence of the Val do Salnés valley, offering a taste that is both invigorating and reminiscent of its origin: Piorno, named after a local shrub, comes from an inland vineyard 16 kilometers from the sea, featuring 50-year-old vines in sandy loam and clay loam soils of granitic origin. Started in 2013 the friends aim was to revitalise historic family vineyards from co-operative control and produce mightily fine, age-worthy Albarinos
Narupa’s approach to viticulture focuses on organic treatments and the avoidance of chemicals. For the top wines the winemaking process involves crushing and cold maceration of the grapes for 30 hours, followed by fermentation with native yeasts in barrels where they remains for approximately 10 months.
Each wine, whether it be Alalá, Caneco, or Piorno, offers a distinct taste experience, reinforcing Narupa’s position as a notable and innovative winery in the region.
