Narupa Wines, situated in the heart of the Val do Salnés valley in the Rías Baixas region of Spain, is a small family-run winery founded by four friends - the Pedrosa brothers (Rosa and Fran), Ruth Campelo, and Nacho Jímenez in 2013. Their exceptional Albariño wines display the diversity and quality of their local grape. The wines captures the essence of the Galician coast with its fresh, saline, floral, and citrusy notes, balanced acidity, and minerality. They reflects the coastal influence of the Val do Salnés valley, offering a taste that is both invigorating and reminiscent of its origin: Piorno, named after a local shrub, comes from an inland vineyard 16 kilometers from the sea, featuring 50-year-old vines in sandy loam and clay loam soils of granitic origin. Started in 2013 the friends aim was to revitalise historic family vineyards from co-operative control and produce mightily fine, age-worthy Albarinos Narupa's approach to viticulture focuses on organic treatments and the avoidance of chemicals. For the top wines the winemaking process involves crushing and cold maceration of the grapes for 30 hours, followed by fermentation with native yeasts in barrels where they remains for approximately 10 months. Each wine, whether it be Alalá, Caneco, or Piorno, offers a distinct taste experience, reinforcing Narupa's position as a notable and innovative winery in the region.
Narupa Salicornia 2023
13% abv
“”The 2023 Salicornia, produced with grapes grown closer to the sea on sandy soils, has an austere and backward nose. It has a sharper palate with a faint salty twist in the finish. Both wines from 2023 show good ripeness and development of aromas and flavors and an elegance, purity and precision like few vintages before. This matured in barrel for one year, yet the oak was imperceptible. 1,170 bottles produced. It was bottled in January 2025.” 2025 – 2032

Narupa Salicornia wine come from vineyards closer to the sea, it is made from grapes grown in sandy soils accentuated by maritime influence. A large portion of the grapes are foot-trodden and undergo cold maceration for several hours. Fermentation takes place with indigenous yeasts, followed by ageing in French oak barrels for 11–12 months. The wine is then clarified with bentonite in stainless steel tanks and bottled. Contains sulphites. The wine is not tartarically stabilised, so crystalline deposits may appear; these do not affect the wine’s integrity or organoleptic qualities
It has a vibrant palate with a faint salty twist in the finish, good ripeness and development of aromas and flavors and an elegance, purity and precision like few vintages before. This matured in barrel for one year, yet the oak was imperceptible.
Salicornia takes its name from a perennial shrubby plant typicaly found in salt marches.
Soil type: Sandy soils of granitic origin, sometimes with rounded pebbles and outcrops of schist and slate. Sand produces lighter, more aromatic and taut wines.
Vineyards: Infiestas, Fianteira, Piñeiros, Fonteiro (Sanxenxo), and Eira (Barro). Grapes sourced from a vineyards closest to the sea (300 metres to 1.3 km in a straight line), with an almost constant maritime breeze. These grapes contribute fresher, more citrus-driven and floral characteristics.
Climate: A warmer and drier 2023 vintage than is typical in Galicia, with notable storms in May. July and August were somewhat unsetteled but very warm, resulting in good ripening. Harvest conditions were only slightly affected by occasional storms during an otherwise very warm September.
Harvest: September 2023, with manual selection of bunches and grapes in the vineyard.
