Founded in 1779 on the shores of Loch Indaal, Bowmore is one of the oldest distilleries on Islay and a cornerstone of the island’s whisky heritage. Known for its distinctive balance of gentle peat smoke and coastal character, Bowmore produces single malts that combine maritime salinity, soft smoke, citrus, and honeyed sweetness. A significant part of Bowmore’s identity comes from its traditional floor maltings and the legendary No.1 Vaults—one of Scotland’s oldest maturation warehouses, situated below sea level on the edge of the loch. The distillery’s whiskies are celebrated for their elegance and balance, offering a more nuanced style of Islay peat while still expressing the island’s unmistakable coastal influence.
