Bruichladdich Port Charlotte PMC:01 2013

54.5% abv

Vol- 70cl

Warm peat smoke and red fruits open on the nose, moving to stewed pears, melon and a subtle marine notes. Delicate floral notes of rose and geranium follow, with hints of vanilla, honey, leather and toasted oak coming from the wood. As the spirit opens further, a subtle spice mix of clove and ginger comes to the flore, with a touch of marzipan.
Malt sugar and peat smoke complement the tremendous viscosity of the liquid which coats the palate. The influence of the cask continues and showcases the harmonious balance of oak and fruit, with succulents blackberries, plum and aged leather.
Mellow marine tones, crushed seashells and hint of citrus lemon rind to finish.

Port Charlotte PMC:01 is a story of place. The sixth release in our Cask Exploration series, the 2013 vintage has been profoundly influenced by the rich, fruit-laden oak of Pomerol wine casks – adding depth and complexity to this single malt.

Bruichladdich was built by Barnett Harvey in 1881. The distillery sits across the road from the North Atlantic Ocean, on the blustery island of Islay. Bruichladdich was given new life by Mark Reynier and Jim McEwan in 2001 and has been under the ownership of Remy Cointreau since 2012. Three different styles of whisky are created at Bruichladdich with three different names representing varying degrees of peat; Bruichladdich: Always unpeated, light, floral and fruity. Port Charlotte: Heavily Peated and elegant, retains the finesse of Bruichladdich but with a backbone of peat. Octomore: the worlds most heavily peated whisky ranging from 107ppm (phenolic parts per million) to above 300ppm. The Botanist Gin is also distilled at Bruichladdich with the 22 botanicals used in distillation foraged from the island.
