The Slovenian region of Brda lies immediately to the east of Italy’s Collio region. The two denominations, in reality, comprise one contiguous quality wine zone whose terroir is rudely bisected by an international border. Today many winemakers and grapes cross the border in both directions in short journeys from vineyard to cellar. The Simcic family trace their wine making story in the region back to 1860. Their aim is to respect the historic traditions of the region in both viticulture and wine-making. The 24 Hectare estate's vineyards are farmed organically, yields are kept low and only natural yeasts are used. Marjan is one of the best winemakers in Europe and has honed his knowledge of his land all his life and works to progress the quality of the wines tirelessly every year. The wines are divided into three distinct ranges. Classic ( younger vines, all stainless steel, short maceration with lees aging). Cru Selection (single vineyard, oak ferment and aging, some skin contact). Opoka ( the oldest vines of the Crus, planted on the prized Opoka Soil, longer aging)

“Only produced in great years from the oldest cru vineyards, and Marjan’s aim is to produce an aristocratic amongst red wines. The bouquet is beautifully inviting, with scents of mulberry, bramble, pink peppercorn and raspberry with subtle touches of clove oil, coffee and fine vanilla – complex but also still youthful. In the mouth, there is lovely, pure, vivid fruit with notes of juicy mulberry, loganberry, raspberry leaf and scented with cloves, and a touch of harmonious and classy oak. Finely textured tannins and balanced freshness complete the wine – incredibly elegant and long.”
Caroline Gilby, MW
“”Unico M is my unique signature wine, a creation inspired by the extraordinary quality of the 2016 vintage. I seized the opportunity to craft something truly phenomenal. Carefully selecting hand-picked varieties of Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot from our oldest CRU vineyards, I composed a noble, elegant, and timeless blend that elevates this wine to the status of an aristocrat among red classics. Only 1,333 bottles are available.”
